Licorice

Liquorice has been identified as the father of medicinal plants due to its long history in the world.

Liquorice was known as a body tonic in Babylon about 4,000 years ago, and the ancient Egyptians took its root as a medicinal extract for liver and gastrointestinal diseases and extracted a sweet and fragrant flavouring from its root.

Liquorice grows in most parts of the world, especially between two latitudes of 30-45 degrees in the northern hemisphere. This plant is native to the Mediterranean region and is widely cultivated in Iran, Britain, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Greece and Turkey.

The conditions of farming in Iran are extremely suitable. Due to the proper climatic conditions in Iran and the history of extraction of liquorice powder and extract industries and suitable global trade, Licorice holds a unique position among Iranian herbals remedial after saffron.

A variety of liquorice products have many applications in various industries, including pharmaceuticals, herbs and traditional medicine, food, health and beauty care, tobacco, etc.
